Robust Collaborative Operation Against Illegal Cannabis Cultivation Operations
Lancaster, CA - In an essential operation on Thursday, the City of Lancaster, in close coordination with the California Department of Cannabis Control, California Tax and Fee Administration, and LA County Fire Health Hazardous Material Division, took decisive action against illegal cannabis grow houses within the community. This operation is part of a series of ongoing efforts by the City to address and mitigate the hazards associated with unlawful cannabis cultivation. During today’s enforcement operation, 2 illegal cultivation operations were served search warrants. The final totals from the operations will be available in a couple of days.

Illegal cannabis cultivations pose significant environmental and safety hazards, including an increased risk of fire and substantial energy consumption. Such operations, often linked to organized crime, not only endanger the physical safety of neighborhoods but also lead to severe health risks due to the use of dangerous pesticides and the potential contamination of properties with hazardous chemicals.

Mayor R. Rex Parris commented, “Our commitment to the safety and well-being of Lancaster’s residents is unwavering. This operation is critical in our ongoing efforts to rid our community of these hazardous sites. We will continue to work diligently to ensure our City is safe for all families and individuals. This is not about the morality of cannabis consumption; it is about keeping families safe.”
Chief of Police Rodrick Armalin added, “The Lancaster Police Department is dedicated to protecting our community from the dangers posed by illegal cannabis operations. Our collaborative efforts with state and local agencies demonstrate our resolve to combat these threats head-on.”

The operation underscores the City of Lancaster's proactive stance against the dangers of illicit cannabis cultivation, emphasizing the health and safety of its residents. Properties used for these illegal activities are often left with significant structural and environmental damage, posing long-term health risks to unsuspecting future residents.

“Illegal cannabis cultivations undercut the regulated market by growing products that do not meet the standards of our department and their operations often attract violent criminals seeking to profit from their illegal activity,” said Chief Bill Jones of Department of Cannabis Control’s Law Enforcement Division. “Today’s enforcement actions will support licensed cannabis operators and the tax dollars they contribute back to the community.”

The City of Lancaster is counting on its residents as the first line of defense against illegal grow operations. We urge you to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may indicate the presence of these operations. Your cooperation, combined with the continued efforts of local and state agencies, is crucial in safeguarding our neighborhoods.
