| The City of Lancaster's Innovative Gunshot Detection Technology Proves Effective in Community Safety Efforts |
In just two weeks after deployment, ShotSpotter is already yielding dividends on the City’s safety investment
Lancaster, CA. March 29, 2024 - Earlier this month, the Lancaster Police Department announced the deployment of a new gunshot detection technology to enhance public safety in the City. As part of a six-month pilot program and a three-year professional agreement with SoundThinking, Inc., the solution, named ShotSpotter, is designed to identify, locate, and track active gunfire.
ShotSpotter is a state-of-the-art system that can quickly identify the sound of gunshots and notify law enforcement agencies within seconds of their occurrence. Since its implementation, it has provided 36 confirmed alerts related to gunshots, leading to numerous arrests and the capture of valuable evidence.
“I am proud to say that the deployment of ShotSpotter has been nothing short of exceptional,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “This innovative technology has proven invaluable in our efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety."

Through the use of ShotSpotter and the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), which locates guns across the country through shell castings research, the Lancaster Police Department has been successful in cracking down on illegal narcotics operations and gang-related activities.
“ShotSpotter and NIBIN have revolutionized law enforcement capabilities,” said Chief of Police Rodrick Armalin. “We are proud to have these tools at our disposal to enhance the safety and well-being of our community.”
