| Palmdale Prioritizes Community Safety With Final Neighborhood Watch Event in District 3 on Oct 28th |
PALMDALE, CA - Want to learn how to keep your neighborhood safe and teach children about personal safety while celebrating Halloween? Residents are invited to finish off our exciting Neighborhood Watch series at the final spooktacular event on Monday, October 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the Oasis Park Recreation Center, located at 3850 E Ave. S.
Attendees will be able to learn about Palmdale’s Neighborhood Watch program and practical safety tips from City staff, local law enforcement and community partners. Participants will have an opportunity to connect with Councilmember Laura Bettencourt, engage in family-friendly games and take a picture with the “Boris the Burglar” backdrop. Enjoy a variety of free churros and a festive candy giveaway while supplies last. Additional food will be available for purchase.
“I am looking forward to connecting with the Palmdale community at this informative, yet engaging, Halloween-themed event,” said Councilmember Laura Bettencourt. “Our Neighborhood Watch program offers residents of District 3 a chance to learn about neighborhood safety and foster connections with other residents. | Palmdale Hosts Los Angeles County Blue Ribbon Commission on Homelessness Meeting |
PALMDALE, CA - On October 10, the City of Palmdale hosted a regional meeting of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Homelessness (BRCH) at the Palmdale Playhouse. Key figures from Los Angeles County and the surrounding region gathered to explore cooperative strategies for tackling homelessness.
The focus of the meeting was to develop a cohesive response to this pressing issue through innovative solutions that bring communities together. Attendees included Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Palmdale Mayor Austin Bishop and Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa, who serves on the BRCH commission, as well as Councilmember Eric Ohlsen. Representatives from Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority and other member cities, such as Agoura Hills, Burbank, Calabasas, Glendale, Hidden Hills, La Canada Flintridge, Lancaster, Malibu, San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Westlake Village are also actively contributing to these discussions regarding homelessness solutions in Los Angeles County.
“This regional meeting is a crucial step in addressing the complex issue of homelessness,” said Palmdale Mayor Austin Bishop. “We’re committed to working collaboratively with our neighboring cities and Los Angeles County to develop effective, compassionate solutions that serve our entire community.”
During the meeting, participants noted that relocating individuals experiencing homelessness between cities is not a sustainable solution. There was a strong emphasis on the need for adequate shelter and comprehensive wraparound services to achieve meaningful progress. Additionally, the group identified the importance of policy reforms, such as revising ordinances to ensure veterans receiving benefits are included in services and working with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to streamline the qualification process for assistance.

| Palmdale Leads California in Hazardous Waste Reduction by Promoting Reusable 1 Lb. Propane Cylinders |
PALMDALE, CA – Californians have regularly used 1 lb. propane gas cylinders for outdoor grills, heaters and lighting. Now, Palmdale residents can save money by buying and refilling reusable 1 lb. propane cylinders in their area!
On Saturday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Palmdale residents can pick up a free, reusable 1 lb. propane cylinder when they visit the Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center (1200 W. City Ranch Rd., Palmdale, CA 93551) and sign the pledge to stop using single-use 1 lb. propane cylinders. The free reusable cylinders are limited to one per household, while supplies last. Participants must be Palmdale residents to qualify.
“Events like this one will help our residents make the switch from single-use to refillable propane cylinders, and that could make a world of difference to our future waste stream,” said Palmdale Mayor Austin Bishop.
Californians use more than an estimated four million single-use cylinders each year. When purchasing a single-use 1 lb. propane cylinder, approximately 80% of the cost is for the package. Reusable cylinders can be refilled more than a hundred times and can last for more than 10 years. After the initial purchase of the cylinder, customers can simply pay for the gas refill when empty or take the empty cylinder back to the nearest exchange location to swap out the empty reusable cylinder for a filled reusable cylinder.

| Palmdale City Leaders Appalled at Release of Convicted Rapist to Nearby Community |
PALMDALE, CA – The City of Palmdale has been informed that convicted serial rapist Christopher Hubbart will be housed in the neighboring community of Juniper Hills per the Los Angeles Superior Court’s decision. Palmdale City leaders are furious and frustrated as residents of the Antelope Valley’s comments fell on deaf ears.
“This decision is unacceptable and a slap in the face to every person who voiced their opinion on this matter; to say that I am outraged is an understatement,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “The entire process was a sham: from the initial decision made in Santa Clara to the hearing being placed outside of the Antelope Valley, it was clear there was never any intention to listen to our voices. Christopher Hubbart has been convicted in Los Angeles and Santa Clara counties for a series of at least 40 rapes and other sex crimes and placing him in our community endangers our residents.”
Hubbart, also known as the Pillowcase Rapist, used pillowcases to muffle the screams of his victims. He was previously housed in the same vicinity in 2014, only to be swiftly reincarcerated for violating the terms of his release. It is clear that this process has not worked in the past, and yet, the Los Angeles Superior Court’s decision blatantly turns its back on the people of the Antelope Valley.

| One of the Busiest Emergency Departments in the State Makes Significant Enhancement to Boost Capacity |
LANCASTER, CA - Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) is proud to announce the successful completion of its Emergency Department (ED) addition. Surrounded by community leaders, elected officials and hospital staff, the momentous feat was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony as AVMC prepared to unveil its new 7,200 square foot Emergency Department facility.
The state-of-the-art expansion, which includes 40 treatment bays, a nurses’ station, and support areas, will significantly enhance AVMC's capacity to meet the healthcare needs of the Antelope Valley community, which sees approximately over 9,000 patients per month. This project reinforces AVMC's role as the region’s only Level II trauma center and the sole emergency department approved for pediatric care.
“This expansion is a crucial step forward for Antelope Valley Medical Center,” said Edward Mirzabegian, AVMC Chief Executive Officer. “As the second busiest emergency room in California, this additional space will allow us to better serve our growing community. We are committed to providing the highest quality of care, and this new facility is a testament to that dedication.”
The existing ED space has been in use since 1986, while servicing a growing population of close to half a million local residents. The addition will be connected to the existing emergency department and located in part of the current ambulance drop off area. It will look and operate as though it has always been a part of the original building.
Don Parazo, M.D., Antelope Valley Healthcare District board chair, said of the expansion: “I’m proud of the team that saw this project through completion. The ED is an invaluable service to our community and I’m pleased to see the hospital continue to make the necessary upgrades to accommodate the growing need. This new addition will enhance our efficiency with an improved workflow.”
