| AVMC’s “Lanes of Hope” Event Rolls Forward with Cancer Awareness for All |
Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) proudly hosted its annual Cancer Awareness and Prevention event, bringing the community together for an evening of bowling, education, and empowerment. The information and experience shared reinforces AVMC’s commitment to comprehensive cancer prevention and early detection.
With strong attendance and enthusiastic engagement, Lanes of Hope offered a unique blend of entertainment and health education. The event aimed to break down barriers to care by creating a relaxed, welcoming space where individuals could learn about cancer risks, symptoms, and screening options.
Speakers included Kenny Irving, NP and Kristina Schultz, NP, both from City of Hope, who shared the latest advancements in cancer prevention---the presentations highlighted lung cancer prevention and cervical cancer screening. Attendees had the opportunity to speak directly with medical experts, gaining valuable insights into proactive health strategies.
“This event reflects our boarder mission as a comprehensive Community Cancer Center to educate and empower our community,” said Edward Mirzabegian, Chief Executive Officer of Antelope Valley Medical Center. “Our hope is to help more people take charge of their health in a setting that’s both informative and enjoyable.”
AVMC extends its sincere thanks to its partners, volunteers, and healthcare professionals whose dedication made Lanes of Hope a meaningful and memorable experience. Their support helped create an evening that inspired awareness, action, and hope.

| Nominate a Hero: Palmdale Seeks Nominees for Annual Veteran of the Year Award |
PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale invites community members to nominate exceptional local veterans for its prestigious Veteran of the Year Award, recognizing those who exemplify extraordinary service and dedication to Antelope Valley veterans.
Nominations will be accepted from Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, through Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The award celebrates those who demonstrate bravery, dedication and sacrifice while remaining committed to uplifting fellow service members by volunteering, mentoring, advocating and taking meaningful action. Recognition is awarded regardless of military rank or branch of service.
“Our veterans have given so much to protect our freedoms, and many continue to serve their communities long after their military service ends,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “This award honors those who dedicate themselves to supporting their fellow service members.”
The award was created in honor of AV Vets4Veterans Tom Hilzendeger, who spent decades advocating for veterans’ rights and building a robust support network for service members across the Antelope Valley. Hilzendeger’s legacy of compassion and tireless advocacy continues to inspire the region’s commitment to those who served.

| Local Hydrogen Progess Remains Strong |
FPH2 Response to ARCHES Pausing Operations
Lancaster, CA - Following yesterday’s announcement that the Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES) is pausing operations, the First Public Hydrogen Authority (FPH2) reassures stakeholders that hydrogen markets remain strong. The partnerships, infrastructure, and market activity built through ARCHES are key elements to hydrogen deployment, and we look forward to building on their success.
FPH2’s recent hydrogen supply solicitation drew a broad range of hydrogen suppliers, many new to the California market and ready to invest in our state, a clear indicator of an expanding renewable hydrogen market. Just last week, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) approved repowering Scattergood Generating Station, to a hydrogen-ready power plant. This will be the first large-scale green hydrogen power plant in California and the second hydrogen power plant for LADWP.
Additionally, the terminal operators and Port officials at nearly every port in California are unwaveringly pursuing new hydrogen solutions to help meet their clean air goals. Despite some changes with federal energy policy, we see strong and consistent public and private sector investment in the hydrogen economy in California, and growing interest in investing in equipment to integrate hydrogen as a renewable fuel in their operations. Looking across the hydrogen market in California, we need all renewable hydrogen projects to move forward to meet the new demand on the horizon; it is a very exciting time for California’s green economy and for hydrogen.

| Palmdale Art Contest: Bytes and Bloom, a Celebration of Technology and Expression |
The City of Palmdale is excited to announce its Digital Art Contest, Bytes and Blooms. This year’s theme, “Let Creativity Bloom in Every Byte”, merges technology with nature and showcases how innovation and sustainability can coexist.
All digital artists are invited to participate, and five prizes, one per age group, are up for grabs. The grand prize is a free laptop with a drawing tablet or an iPad Air with Apple Pencil and online digital art classes with a local artist! If under the age of 18, winning contestants must be accompanied by a guardian to pick up prizes.
All submissions must be original artwork and will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Theme Interpretation (25 pts): How well the piece represents Bytes and Blooms.
- Technical Skill (20 pts): Mastery of digital techniques and composition.
- Creativity and Originality (15 pts): Unique and imaginative concepts.
- Aesthetic and Impact (15 pts): Visual appeal and emotional engagement.
- Presentation and Clarity (10 pts): Professionalism and quality of submission.

| Final Salute: Palmdale Hosts Last Display of the AV Wall Honoring Vietnam Veterans |
The City of Palmdale invites the community to experience a historic and heartfelt farewell as the AV Wall, a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., is displayed for the final time. The five-day tribute takes place Saturday, Nov. 8, through Wednesday, Nov.12, at the Palmdale Amphitheater, located at 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend a week of remembrance and reflection:
- Saturday, Nov. 8: AV Wall Escort to the Amphitheater at 8 a.m.; Opening Ceremony at 4 p.m.
- Sunday, Nov. 9: Candlelight Ceremony at 8 p.m. dedicated to the 76 men from the Antelope Valley who were killed during the Vietnam War.
- Tuesday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m.
- Wednesday, Nov. 12: AV Wall Retirement at 8 a.m.
The display will be open 24/7 starting Saturday, Nov. 8 and is free and open to the public.
“This final display represents a profound opportunity for our community to stand together in gratitude for the men and women who served our country during the Vietnam War,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “The AV Wall has connected generations of Palmdale residents with the legacy of these heroes. This will be our last chance to experience this powerful memorial in person.”
