Congressman Whitesides' Weekly Update: March 10, 2025
This week in D.C., I continued meeting with constituents and groups that serve California’s 27th District, and had important conversations about the most pressing issues facing our community.

I was also honored to welcome officials from the U.S. Navy into my congressional office on Wednesday as they presented me with their official Seal. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, I am proud to honor the world’s best Navy and our shared mission of keeping this country safe.

Many of you have reached out to my office regarding the recent U.S. House of Representatives budget resolution and the risk it poses to programs like Medicaid and Social Security. I understand that many of my constituents rely on these programs to survive, which is why I voted against the resolution that would require cuts to Medicaid and other federal benefits. I will keep you updated as I learn more. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office through my website with your concerns and questions.
HONORING OUR FOREST WORKERS

Each member of Congress is allowed to invite one guest to the President’s joint address/State of the Union. This year, I was proud to bring Jasmin Dominguez from Lancaster as my guest. Jasmin was recently laid off from the U.S. Forest Service as part of the DOGE cuts after working on the Eaton, Hughes, and Hurst fires. As the sole Fire GIS Information Specialist in the area, she was responsible for mapping fires as they broke out. During the wildfires in January, she worked over 12-hour days to help firefighters on the ground contain and put out the Southern California firestorms.

MEETING WITH THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIREFIGHTERS

I joined the local and national leaders from the International Association of Fire Fighters on Tuesday to discuss how we can support firefighter health, safety, benefits, and more.

I was able to thank the firefighters and first responders for their service, and especially for their work on the recent Southern California wildfires. I will continue to support and advocate for them in Congress.

SUPPORTING OUR VETERANS

I also had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars this week. Ensuring that veterans receive the benefits they have earned is one of my top priorities in Congress.

I am proud to support the VFW in their work to advocate for our veterans, and I look forward to working with this team to respond to the effects of toxic exposure, protect VA health care, and keep our veterans employed.

STAY IN TOUCH WITH MY OFFICE

To keep in touch with my office, you can follow me on X, Bluesky, Facebook, and Instagram.

It’s an honor to serve California’s 27th District, and stay tuned for more from D.C. next week!

Rep. George Whitesides
U.S. House of Representatives
CA-27
