| Southwest Healthcare Palmdale Regional Medical Center Receives Silver Designation |
Southwest Healthcare Palmdale Regional Medical Center has been awarded a SILVER designation from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll.
CDPH representatives, Jane Kriengkauykiat, PharmD, DrPH, BCPS, Pharmacist Lead, Antimicrobial Stewardship Team, Healthcare-Associated Infections Program and Daniel Dodson, MD, Physician Lead, Antimicrobial Stewardship Team, Healthcare-Associated Infections Program commented:
“We appreciate your efforts to improve antimicrobial use at your facility and to engage your staff in this important work. Antimicrobial stewardship is critical to improving patient outcomes and limiting the spread of antimicrobial resistance. Thank you for developing a program that incorporates each of the CDC's Core Elements and assesses clinically meaningful outcomes of your stewardship interventions.”
The Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll review process included three phases. The first phase was a review of the required documentation for evidence of adherence to the CDC's Core Elements of antimicrobial stewardship. The second was a review of application Part III "Demonstration of Outcomes" (required for Silver and Gold designations), and application Part IV "Community Engagement" (required for Gold designations). For a blinded review of Part III, external antimicrobial stewardship experts were engaged from different facility types including community hospitals, academic centers, major teaching hospitals, and hospitals with unique populations. These reviewers assessed each application using published rubric and requirements, with particular focus on clinically meaningful interventions and outcomes. The third phase of the review was an assessment of each application in its entirety, including the documented quality and impact of each stewardship program.
