Palmdale Urges Safe Driving After Tragic Spike in Fatal Collisions
PALMDALE, CA – The Palmdale City Council is urging all residents to exercise extra caution and practice safe driving habits following a tragic series of fatal traffic collisions in May. More than 10 lives have been lost on Antelope Valley roads in recent weeks.

“It’s devastating to see so many fatalities in such a short period of time,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “We’re calling on every driver in Palmdale to stay focused, slow down and make safety the top priority when you’re behind the wheel.”

The spate of the recent crashes highlights the importance of driving defensively and avoiding risky actions like texting, using phone apps, eating or grooming, excessive speed, aggressive maneuvers and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Pedestrians are also reminded to stay aware of their surroundings, make eye contact with drivers and only cross at designated crosswalks and intersections when safe to do so.

With school out for summer, the City especially encourages parents and guardians to have open conversations with their teen drivers about remaining attentive behind the wheel. As summer travel increases, all drivers should be extra vigilant on the roads.
