AVMC and OneLegacy Unite to Honor the Gift of Life Through Rose Dedication
LANCASTER, CA - Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) and OneLegacy, the organ, eye and tissue recovery organization, recently united to share in the tradition of honoring families of AVMC organ and tissue donors with a Rose Dedication.

The CEO Rose Dedication is a ceremony when the hospital’s leadership team dedicates a rose to donors from Antelope Valley Medical Center, the care teams that make donation possible, and the collective effort to save and heal lives through donation. These roses are then placed in the Dedication Garden on the completed OneLegacy Float.

“This ceremony honors the selfless heroes who give the gift of life, and we are proud to support this meaningful and vital mission”, said Edward Mirzabegian, AVMC Chief Executive Officer. “We also thank the families for their trust during this very difficult time and recognize the profound impact they have on countless lives.”

This year, we’re honored to have Jessica Horton, an AVMC Respiratory Therapist ride in the 2025 OneLegacy float. Jessica was born with congenital glaucoma, which by the time she was 11 months old, was blind in her left eye, ultimately requiring a prosthetic. In the meantime, her right eye was becoming more and more damaged. By the time Jessica was 29 years old her right cornea was so scarred, only a corneal transplant would save her sight. Jessica stated: “My gift has allowed me to continue working as a respiratory therapist & have a happy healthy family. I am so grateful to my donor and their family who selflessly gave me the gift of sight.” Jessica now volunteers as one of OneLegacy's Ambassadors and is a wonderful advocate for donation and transplantation.

Palmdale City Offices to Close for Thanksgiving Holiday
Palmdale, CA — The City of Palmdale’s administrative and business offices, the Palmdale Playhouse box office, Legacy Commons for Active Seniors, South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) and Palmdale City Library will be closed on Thursday, November 28, in observance of Thanksgiving. Administrative and business offices will reopen on Monday, December 2.

“As we gather with family and friends for Thanksgiving, I want to extend my warmest wishes to all our residents,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “May your holiday be filled with joy, gratitude and togetherness.”

To report emergencies after hours, on weekends or holidays, residents may call 661/267-5338. During the furlough, public works crews will handle any emergencies, including sewer overflows, roadway/right of way hazards, downed tree limbs, signs and potholes, and broken sprinkler lines in City parks and landscaped areas. Residents can report issues online at www.CityOfPalmdaleCA.gov/Report.

Celebrate the Season with Palmdale’s Jolly Holiday on December 7th
PALMDALE, CA — Celebrate the winter season at Palmdale’s Jolly Holiday! The City’s one-day celebration will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Palmdale Amphitheater, located at 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd.

“As part of the City’s annual holiday festivities, this free event is the perfect way for Palmdale to experience the magic of community during December,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “I am excited to witness the joy and laughter that comes with so many family activities bringing our residents together.”

Attendees can look forward to chilly fun in the snow play area, where children 12 or younger can enjoy playing in the show and building snowmen. The snow tubing experience, open to ages 3 and up, will provide an exhilarating trip down a snow hill that will be sure to get everyone smiling. Other activities for residents include carnival games, holiday-themed miniature golf, a festive market, a craft-making station and so much more. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be making a special appearance but watch out—the Grinch will be there too! Children can meet them all and take photos to remember the day.

Palmdale’s Sheriff’s Department Goes Undercover to Tackle Holiday Retail Theft
Palmdale, CA — As the holiday season approaches, the City of Palmdale and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) are excited to introduce Operation Secret Shopper, an innovative initiative that blends holiday cheer with vigilant crime prevention. Meet our special team of deputies, part of Santa’s crew, trading their uniforms for everyday clothing to protect our local retail hotspots. They’re on high alert, ready to catch retail thieves and make sure anyone bold enough to steal doesn’t just end up on the naughty list, but also faces the full force of the law.

“We’re watching you, and we’re prepared to act,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “By working together, we can create a safer shopping environment and deter criminal activity in our community. Palmdale authorities will not hesitate to prosecute those looking to commit crimes during the holidays or any other time. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards retail theft. Remember, Palmdale prosecutes!”

As part of this operation, plainclothes deputies will seamlessly blend into the holiday shopping crowd. This strategic approach not only makes it difficult for criminals to detect law enforcement but also allows deputies to discreetly observe suspicious behavior and detain suspects.

In addition to undercover activity, the City’s Community Service Officers (CSOs) and LASD are actively monitoring all incidents of retail theft and will relentlessly pursue those who believe they can evade the law. Crime is not tolerated in our community and offenders will face felony charges along with restitution efforts to ensure victims are compensated. This zero-tolerance stance means that every act of theft will be met with swift and decisive action.

Palmdale Kicks Off the Holiday Season with the Pines and Presents Tree Lot
PALMDALE, CA — Get in the holiday spirit with Palmdale’s Pines and Presents Tree Lot! The lot will be open daily, starting on November 29 until December 22, or until trees are sold out, at the Palmdale Auto Mall, located at 39050 Carriage Way. It will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 12 to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

“We’re excited to launch this first-of-its-kind tree lot in Palmdale, which is sure to bring joy and laughter to our community,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “I am excited to experience the magic of being surrounded by the smell of pine trees, jolly decorations and so many families preparing for the holidays.”

The Pines and Presents Tree Lot will have plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy throughout the week, including daily DIY crafts for $5-10, such as ornament and cookie decorating and sand art. There will also be a station to write letters to Santa, comfortable seating to soak in the ambiance, festive holiday music and decorations and plenty of photo opportunities to create lasting memories. Participants are encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped toy to benefit The WOW Flower Project. All who donate to the toy drive will receive a $5 off coupon toward a purchase at the tree lot.

On Saturdays and Sundays, attendees can enjoy complimentary cookies and hot cocoa — perfect for warming up from the December chill — while supplies last. To add to the magic, live carolers will perform on Saturdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Plus, bring the whole family for a visit to our free petting zoo on weekends (weather permitting), and a special photo opportunity with Santa. Capture the joy of the season by taking a free photo using your personal phone with Santa, or purchase a commemorative print in a festive frame for $10 to cherish for years to come.

Palmdale Playhouse Kicks Off the Holiday Season with “A Christmas Carol” One-Man Show
PALMDALE, CA — Get ready to embrace the magic of the holiday season with “A Christmas Carol,” an extraordinary show featuring Broadway and film actor Duffy Hudson! This enchanting performance will take place at the Palmdale Playhouse, located at 38334 10th St. East, for one night only on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.

“This one-man show is a must-see for the whole community,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “‘A Christmas Carol’ is a timeless classic that illustrates the importance of coming together as a community and serving others, capturing the true essence of the holidays.”

Watch as Duffy Hudson transforms into the iconic Ebenezer Scrooge, guiding viewers through the magical journey of Christmases past, present and future. With no props or costumes, Hudson will bring all 30 characters to life in a unique 75-minute retelling that promises to delight audiences of all ages.

Hollywood Gothique describes experiencing this production as “you will be light as a feather, happy as an angel, merry as a schoolboy and giddy as a drunken man. It is that good.”

Palmdale Reminds Residents to Keep Your Drains FOG-Free This Holiday Season
PALMDALE, CA – The City of Palmdale is reminding residents to keep FOG (fats, oils, and grease) out of household sinks and drains to prevent sewer blockages during the holiday season. With Thanksgiving around the corner, the City aims to educate households on proper disposal of cooking byproducts. FOG buildup can lead to severe sewer backups that can result in raw sewage overflow onto streets or even into homes. These costly and environmentally harmful incidents are entirely preventable with proper disposal practices.

“We want to empower our residents to prevent sewer blockages at this time of year,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. Around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, we have seen sewer blockages due to the buildup of fats, oils and grease from cooking oils, salad dressings, sandwich spreads, meat drippings/juices/fat, and other similar products used to prepare delicious holiday meals. The problem arises when they are dumped down the sink. They should never go there.”

Special care should be taken when disposing of oil from deep-fried turkeys, a popular holiday cooking method that generates large amounts of oil waste. Used cooking oil should never go down the sink; the best way to dispose of it is to take it to the Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center (AVECC) on the first and third Saturday of every month.
