Palmdale Councilmembers Meet with U.S. Senators to Advocate for Californians |
PALMDALE, CA — Earlier this month, City of Palmdale representatives traveled to Washington, D.C., to join fellow local leaders from across California for discussions with U.S. Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff. The meetings, organized by the League of California Cities, focused on protecting critical federal funding for cities, advocating for local priorities, securing FEMA reimbursements and ensuring disaster aid reaches communities in need across the state.
Mayor Richard J. Loa, who attended the meeting alongside Councilmember Andrea Alarcón, highlighted the impact these gatherings can have on Palmdale residents.
“It was critical for us to be here in Washington to ensure that Palmdale’s needs are heard and prioritized,” said Mayor Loa. “We appreciate the opportunity to speak with our federal representatives about the challenges our community faces and the funding necessary to continue building a thriving City.”
The League of California Cities, a statewide association that advocates for cities by influencing policy decisions at the state and federal levels, plays a crucial role in ensuring that municipalities have the resources and support needed to serve their residents effectively.

Congressman Whitesides' Weekly Update: March 23, 2025 |
I spent the week back in California having important conversations with community leaders and activists about our district’s top priorities.
One of the issues I’ve been working to tackle is getting relief and answers for everyone affected by Chiquita Canyon Landfill. In addition to introducing the Chiquita Canyon Tax Relief Act, I sent a letter to the EPA demanding that they lead a full risk assessment on the Chiquita Canyon Landfill, release their findings to the public, and take action to protect the surrounding communities and ensure accountability. You can read my full letter here. Our neighbors deserve better than fumes that force them to stay inside, which is why I will continue to fight on their behalf to find answers and relief.
If you missed it, I was recently interviewed on C-SPAN where I discussed what inspired my journey to work in public service and went over the key issues I’m focused on addressing for our district. You can watch the full interview here.
Finally, my incredible district team has hit the ground running, making sure that they are not only available to help you with federal agencies but also meeting with community leaders and attending events all throughout the district. Just in the past week, my team recognized local high school students competing in a mock trial competition, visited the at-risk areas around Chiquita Canyon, and helped a local veteran celebrate his 103rd birthday!
