PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale is excited to announce the return of its annual Walk on Words Sidewalk Poetry Contest, inviting poets of all ages to submit their original works centered around the theme of Earth Day.

The contest is free and open to all ages. Submissions will be accepted from Tues., April 1 through Wed., April 30. Participants are encouraged to craft original poems that reflect the theme of Earth Day and celebrate the environment. The winning entry will be stamped in concrete and permanently featured at Sam Yellen Park as a part of Palmdale’s lasting legacy.

“This contest is a great opportunity for our community to not only showcase their creativity, but also to share their love for the environment,” said Mayor Richard J. Loa. “I can’t wait to see the ways our residents will use this endeavor to celebrate Earth Day and National Poetry Month!”

Poems must be family-friendly, no longer than eight lines (including the title) and no more than 25 characters per line, including spaces. Entries will be judged based on their originality, creativity and how well they reflect the theme. Poems must be original compositions by the submitting poet and written in English or Spanish.
