Lancaster Police Department Achieves POST Certification, Reinforcing Commitment to Excellence
Lancaster, CA - The City of Lancaster is proud to announce that the Lancaster Police Department (LPD) is now a certified agency through the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).

This official certification signifies that LPD has met the rigorous training, hiring, and operational standards set forth by the state to ensure professional, ethical, and effective law enforcement. POST certification is a major milestone for the department and a testament to the City’s ongoing commitment to public safety, accountability, and community trust.

“POST certification elevates the Lancaster Police Department to a new level of service,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “It ensures our officers are trained to the highest standards and demonstrates our dedication to building a department that reflects the best of modern policing.”

Vice Mayor Marvin Crist also shared his enthusiasm for this major milestone, “This is a proud moment for our City. Palmdale Empowers Teens to Take a Stand in Fight Against Fentanyl with Summer Youth Program
PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale is putting power in the hands of local youth with its Fight Fentanyl Antelope Valley Summer Youth Program. This free, three-day initiative is designed to inform and inspire local teens to make a difference in the fight against fentanyl and substance abuse.

The program will be held concurrently at two locations: the Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center, 3850 E. Avenue S, and the Lancaster Community Center, 44611 Yucca Ave. from Tuesday, July 29 to Thursday, July 31 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. It is open to youth in grades 6 through 12. Teens will gain critical knowledge about resisting peer pressure, managing stress and recognizing the dangers of fentanyl, all in a safe, supportive and innovative environment.

“We’re not just educating our youth, we’re giving them the tools to become advocates and changemakers against deadly drugs in our community,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “This program can help save lives all while providing a positive environment where teens can make lasting friendships and develop leadership skills. This summer, our youth can be part of something bigger than themselves.”

Fight Fentanyl Summer Youth Program features workshops led by prevention experts, interactive sessions on drug resistance and stress management. Plus, all teens receive free breakfast and lunch daily and have chances to win gift cards and local event tickets.

Exhibition Celebrates The Antelope Valley Medical Center’s 70th Anniversary
Lancaster, CA - The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) and MOAH:CEDAR are pleased to present Legacy of Care: 70 Years of Medical Innovation, highlighting the history, progress, and community impact of the Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) since its opening 70 years ago. The exhibition will be open from August 2 through September 28, 2025, at MOAH:CEDAR. Join us for MOAH:CEDAR’s public opening reception on Saturday, August 2, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Legacy of Care: 70 Years of Medical Innovation is a collaborative effort between MOAH and the Antelope Valley Medical Center, chronicling the history of the medical center’s evolution from a modest community hospital into the cutting-edge medical facility it is today. With an emphasis on the staff and volunteers who have made invaluable contributions to the medical center throughout its history, Legacy of Care features testimonials from current, long-term staff members, as well as historic photographs that showcase the rich legacy of these individuals. In addition to these personal stories, the exhibition spotlights the strides that AVMC has taken in medical innovation, showcasing the advanced technologies implemented by the medical center since its opening.

PALMDALE, CA — It’s a “Celebration” as the City of Palmdale welcomes legendary R&B group Kool & the Gang for one unforgettable night of music and memories at the Palmdale Amphitheater’s summer concert series on Saturday, July 26.

From their iconic groove “Get Down On It” that gets the party started to their soulful ballad “Cherish,” Kool & the Gang has been the heartbeat of parties for more than 50 years. Now, the Grammy Award-winning band is bringing its dynamic and signature sound to Palmdale.

“We’re excited to welcome such an iconic band to our City,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “Kool & the Gang’s timeless music is the soundtrack to so many people’s lives, and this concert is a special opportunity for generations to come together to sing and dance the night away here in Palmdale.”

Launched in 1969, Kool & the Gang is the longest continually performing R&B group in history. They’ve earned countless awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and were recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Today, their legacy is etched into pop culture through movies, commercials and DJ sets worldwide as their music continues to bring the funk and fun.

Palmdale Unites for Safety at Annual National Night Out Event
PALMDALE, CA — The City of Palmdale is helping residents stand united against crime during its annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 5-9 p.m. at Poncitlán Square, located at 38315 9th St. East. This family-friendly event is a community celebration where neighbors can connect with their local first responders who serve and protect their City every day.

“When residents and law enforcement come together in a positive environment, we build the trust and partnerships that make our community safer and stronger,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “Public safety is a shared responsibility and National Night Out helps to break down barriers to create connections between neighbors and first responders.”

Attendees will enjoy an up-close look at public safety in action with live equipment demos, interactive displays and the chance to explore law enforcement and fire department vehicles. Residents can also chat with the everyday heroes and community partners who serve the City of Palmdale.

Desert Cuts, An Exhibition Of Works By Artist And Educator Lorraine Bubar, Opens At The Elyze Clifford Interpretive Center
Lancaster, CA - The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) is pleased to present Desert Cuts, an exhibition of works by artist and educator Lorraine Bubar, at the Elyze Clifford Interpretive Center (ECIC) in Lancaster’s Prime Desert Woodland Preserve. The exhibition will be on view from July 12 to December 14, 2025. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, July 19, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Desert Cuts is a presentation of print reproductions of the papercut artworks created during Bubar’s six-month residency at ECIC, which took place from January to June 2025. Inspired by the Mojave Desert landscape, her colorful, layered paper pieces capture the unique flora and fauna of the local environment. Described by Bubar as “painting with paper”, these intricate designs weave together themes of metamorphosis, movement, and the hierarchies of desert life, celebrating the ecosystems found in the local preserve.
