Today, Governor Newsom announced his plan to subvert the will of the voters by redrawing California’s congressional district lines behind closed doors, and the Senate Elections Committee announced that they will be holding a hearing on the proposal next Tuesday.
The voters overwhelmingly passed the bi-partisan Citizens Redistricting Commission to increase fairness and transparency in the line-drawing process, but Governor Newsom is throwing that out the window to draw politically influenced lines behind closed doors.
Before this comes up for a vote in the Senate, I want to hear your thoughts. Please take a minute to complete this quick survey to let me know what think about allowing politicians to re-draw congressional district lines.
Sincerely,
Suzette Martinez Valladares Senator, 23rd District
