City of Palmdale Distributes Free Refurbished Laptops to Families in Need
Palmdale, CA — The City of Palmdale reaffirmed its commitment to expanding digital access and equity by distributing free refurbished laptops to eligible SAVES clients during a special event held at SAVES on Thursday, August 15, 2025.

In partnership with Homeboy Electronics Recycling, which provided the laptops, and with support from consultant Nutter, the event also featured a Digital Resource Fair where local organizations shared information on affordable internet programs, digital literacy resources, and IT support services.

This initiative builds on the City’s ongoing work to bridge the digital divide and follows the SAVES Back-to-School Event held on June 27, 2025. Families who attended that earlier event and were preselected were invited back to receive one refurbished laptop per household, with a total of 145 laptops distributed.

“Access to technology is no longer a luxury — it’s a necessity for education, employment, and everyday life,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “By providing laptops and connecting families with affordable internet and tech support, we’re helping Palmdale residents thrive in a digital world.”
The event was made possible through the collaboration of several partner organizations, including Homeboy Electronics Recycling, Advancing Communities Together (ACT), Antelope Valley Partners for Health (AVPH), Antelope Valley Uplift Foundation, LA Deal, Palmdale School District, RACE Communications, SALVA, SiFi, WeCanCode and Wellcare.

South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES), operated by the City of Palmdale, provides essential support services to low-income families and individuals. This laptop distribution is an extension of SAVES’ broader mission to uplift the community through resources that improve quality of life.
