City of Lancaster Celebrates Completion of Mariposa Park Renovation with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
Lancaster, CA - The City of Lancaster is thrilled to announce the completion of the Mariposa Park renovation project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the newly updated amenities. The ceremony will take place on September 4 at 9 a.m., marking the official opening of the enhanced community space.

The renovation project focused on improving accessibility, functionality, and aesthetics throughout the park. Highlights of the transformation include a brand-new inclusive playground with pour-in-place flooring designed to accommodate individuals of all abilities. This state-of-the-art playground incorporates a nature-based theme, with equipment inspired by the “mariposa” (Spanish for butterfly), blending beauty, education, and fun.

In addition to the inclusive playground, Mariposa Park now features newly installed sidewalks, updated concrete and asphalt areas, upgraded electrical infrastructure, and minor landscape and smart irrigation improvements. New amenities such as benches, trashcans, a lighted flagpole, water fountains, and a covered area near the park’s building have also been added. These improvements aim to provide an enjoyable, accessible, and comfortable experience for all visitors.
Mayor R. Rex Parris commented on the project's completion, stating, "Mariposa Park has always been a cherished space for our community. With these new renovations, we are ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the park to its fullest. This project is a testament to our commitment to creating inclusive and welcoming spaces for all of Lancaster's residents."

The Mariposa Park renovation project was made possible through funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and California State Parks Proposition 68 Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program (SPP) Grant. The City of Lancaster expresses its gratitude to all partners involved in bringing this project to life, including the Lancaster School District, Superintendent Marietti, and the families and staff of Mariposa Elementary School, as well as the City’s Public Works and Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Community Services teams.

Come celebrate with us at Mariposa Park on September 4 at 9 a.m. for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and experience the new and improved park amenities firsthand.
