New Exhibition, Luminous Mysteries Human Symmetries, By Artist Nikolas Soren Goodich, Opens At MOAH:CEDAR
Lancaster, CA - MOAH:CEDAR and the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) are pleased to announce Luminous Mysteries Human Symmetries, an exhibition by artist Nikolas Soren Goodich. Luminous Mysteries Human Symmetries will be on view at MOAH:CEDAR from Saturday, September 28 to Sunday, November 24, 2024. The opening reception for the exhibition will take place on Saturday, September 28 from 4 to 6 p.m.

MOAH:CEDAR’s newest exhibition, Luminous Mysteries Human Symmetries, showcases Goodich’s ability to transform his trauma, presenting viewers an opportunity to authentically connect and examine the idea of self and the imaged “other,” through the harmony and incongruence of images. His artistic practice explores the paradox of asymmetry and symmetry through monoprint profile portraits, and large scale installation, that allow for moments of quiet contemplation and close examination through its incandescent qualities.

Nikolas Soren Goodich is a mixed-race Los Angeles native. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in the late 1980s in addition to School of the Art Institution of Chicago in the late 90s before earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking at VCUarts in 2019. He has worked as an art preparator for 25 years at some of the most prestigious galleries and museums on the east and west coasts, all focused on fostering curatorial diversity. He is currently represented by galleries in Los Angeles and The Hague, Netherlands, with works in private collections in the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union.

Palmdale Voters to Consider Measure to Save Tax Revenues for Local Community
PALMDALE, CA – The Palmdale City Council unanimously voted to place Measure PD: Palmdale Essential Services Protection Measure on the November election ballot. If approved by a majority of voters, Measure PD would empower the City to automatically absorb any available redirection of funds, so that additional sales tax revenue stays in Palmdale instead of being diverted to the State of California or County of Los Angeles. Palmdale residents will consider the measure on the November 2024 General Election ballot.

“Measure PD, if approved by our community, would make it so that new tax rate capacities are not redirected to the State of California or County of Los Angeles and instead stay local in Palmdale to fund general services such as public safety, street maintenance and addressing homelessness,” said Mayor Austin Bishop. “On the other hand, if the measure is not approved, new capacities could be redirected to the State or County in the future.”

If a majority of voters approve the measure, the City would automatically exhaust the tax capacity if additional capacity becomes available. For example, if a County tax ends and an additional 0.25% within the maximum allowed sales tax becomes available, then this measure - if adopted - would automatically redirect the 0.25% to Palmdale. In doing so, it would also prevent other agencies from attempting to take the revenue outside the Palmdale community.

A Milestone in Public Safety: Lancaster Police Department Celebrates Opening of New Headquarters
Lancaster, CA - The City of Lancaster is excited to mark the beginning of a new chapter in public safety as we introduce the new headquarters for the Lancaster Police Department. This new facility is part of our continued efforts to evolve and meet the growing needs of our community.

“This new headquarters represents our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of every resident in Lancaster,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “It stands as a beacon of security and a promise that we are investing in the future of our City. This facility is not just a building; it's a forward-thinking investment in our community that embodies our dedication to leading the nation in innovative public safety strategies. By enhancing our capabilities and resources, we ensure Lancaster remains a place where safety and community flourish together.”

Located at 44811 Sierra Highway, the Lancaster Police Station will serve as a central hub for advancing public safety initiatives in the community.

“This new station will be a cornerstone of our mission to community-led policing,” said Chief of Police, Rodrick Armalin. “It will become a center for collaboration between us and the people of Lancaster, ensuring that safety is built through trust, transparency, and active community involvement. With state-of-the-art facilities, we are better equipped to serve the public and engage with residents more effectively than ever before. This headquarters isn’t just a place for officers; it's a community space where residents are welcome to join us in forging a safe, inclusive future.”
