Public Art Installation: Sculptures By Anthony James Now On View At City Hall
Lancaster, CA - The Lancaster Museum of Art & History (MOAH) is pleased to announce the installation of seven new artworks located at Lancaster's City Hall by artist Anthony James as part of the City of Lancaster Public Art Master Plan, furthering the City and MOAH’s mission to bring accessible, world-class art into public spaces. These sculptures are installed in City Hall’s first-floor lobby, second-floor lobby, and courtyard and can be viewed Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The newly installed sculptures represent a convergence of scientific inquiry and artistic expression, functioning as compelling visual metaphors for infinite potential and reflecting the City's own commitment to innovation and community advancement. A part of his Portals series, 24” Cube (Brushed Stainless Steel) (2022), 24” Dodecahedron (Brushed Stainless Steel) (2022), 24” Icosahedron (Brushed Stainless Steel) (2022), 60” Icosahedron (Brushed Stainless Steel) (2022), 24" Octahedron (Brushed Stainless Steel) (2022), 24" Tetrahedron (Brushed Stainless Steel) (2022), and 60” Triacontahedron (Brushed Stainless Steel) (2022) are geometric sculptures that use stainless steel, glass, and LED lights to create the illusion of infinite space. Referencing Minimalism, Formalism, and the Light and Space movement, James employs Platonic and Archimedean solids to explore the philosophical and scientific significance of form and perception. These artworks have been generously donated by the artist and are a part of the City of Lancaster’s permanent collection.

Anthony James is a British American artist based in Los Angeles. He graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 1998, where he studied painting. James’ work has been exhibited at galleries and art fairs across the globe, including Saatchi Gallery, Opera Gallery, HOFA Gallery (House of Fine Art), and Art Basel. In 2023, James became the first visual artist to exhibit on all seven continents, after installing a Portals sculpture at White Desert in Antarctica.

Palmdale City Council Approves Naming of Avenue Q in Honor of Fallen Deputy Clinkunbroomer
PALMDALE, CA - The Palmdale City Council unanimously approved a dual naming of a portion of Avenue Q to Deputy Clinkunbroomer Avenue (Avenue Q), commemorating Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer, who was murdered in the line of duty. The dual naming applies to the corridor from Sierra Highway to 40th Street East. During the meeting, City leaders presented Deputy Clinkunbroomer’s family with a ceremonial street sign in his honor.

“The dual naming of this street will stand as a permanent reminder of Deputy Clinkunbroomer’s courage, service and sacrifice,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “Seeing his name on this avenue will remind everyone who passes by to honor his memory and the values that make our community strong.”

Deputy Clinkunbroomer served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for eight years and was a third-generation member of the agency. On Sept. 16, 2023, Clinkunbroomer was ambushed with unprovoked gunfire when another vehicle pulled alongside his patrol unit and began shooting. He is survived by his fiancée, parents and grandparents.

City of Lancaster and First Public Hydrogen Launch Hydrogen-Powered Backup Traffic Signals
New partnership brings reliable power to intersections: boosting community safety and infrastructure resilience

Lancaster, CA - The City of Lancaster, First Public Hydrogen Authority (FPH2) and Western Systems have partnered to deploy hydrogen-powered backup traffic signals, a major infrastructure upgrade that enhances traffic safety, ensures reliable operations during power outages, and supports the City’s decarbonization initiatives. This marks the latest milestone in the City and FPH2’s work to help cities integrate hydrogen into essential public services.

The new backup systems, powered by HyMax fuel cells, keep traffic intersections functioning during blackouts and disruptions. Conditions that are becoming increasingly common due to grid strain, wildfires, and extreme weather.

“Lancaster has always embraced innovation when it comes to public safety and infrastructure,” said Lancaster Mayor and FPH2 Chairman R. Rex Parris. “Projects such as these reflect our commitment to practical, forward-looking investments that make life better for our residents. It is an example of how hydrogen can support vital infrastructure where it’s needed most. We're proud to partner to launch this in Lancaster and provide a practical solution that keeps traffic flowing and communities protected.”

HyMax fuel cells, manufactured by Western Systems, are designed for long runtime and minimal maintenance. With no internal moving parts and a compact footprint, the systems provide a dependable alternative to diesel generators for traffic management and other critical services.
